Today the laptop has replaced the desk computer,as it is compact, portable and mobile. You can take it aboard a plane, on a ship or elsewhere and keep on working etc. The only disadvantage is that it has limited energy. After a couple of hours of use the battery gets lower and you have to re-charge it for further usage. Laptop manufacturers have not designed a laptop yet that can work for a couple of days. still, several important steps forward have been undertaken to increase battery's life. There are three main kinds of laptop batteries. The first rechargeable laptop batteries were Nickel Cadmium (NiCd). They were quite cheap and produced lots of energy. Yet, they were quite heavy and are no longer exploited these days. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) laptop batteries are sometimes installed into the older generation of laptops. Their output is higher than that of NiCd batteries. Moreover, they are considered to be safer and cheaper. The only drawback is the so-called memory effect they have. If the NiMH battery has not discharged completely, it will remember it and will generate less power than it should do. Lithium Ion (LiON) batteries are generally recommended to install in highly advanced makes. They are lighter in comparison to NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and do not produce any memory effect. Nevertheless, LiON batteries are highly priced. Actually the price for a laptop depends upon how long you can keep your laptop running. Thus, it mainly depends on purposes you use your laptop for. If you travel widely, you definitely need an extended energy source. If it is time to replace your laptop battery, ensure it is compatible with a laptop model, despite the fact that a lot of laptop batteries today are compatible with all models. Then consider 2 major ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage should be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When you buy a battery, always look for the one with the biggest Milliamps. An external laptop battery is attached to a laptop through an AC adapter plug consisting of an adapter, a cord plus thirteen other connectors. When purchasing an AC adaptor, assure that it will suit the current output and voltage. This information is commonly placed on labels of a laptop and on the original adaptor. The letter 'V' means voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure should be within 10% of your original adapter voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower in comparison with the original current output. Another thing to remember is that tip dimensions of an AC adapter and the form of a battery should be similar to the original ones. Needless to say that any device should be exploited properly. Laptop energy sources are no exception. Keep and exploit them in accordance with safety regulations and they will serve you long.
